Yes, good feeling! I used to sell a lot of my hiking books to the local REI store. I'd get a call and drop off a case with an invoice. Then they decided they would only accept books from a distributor, which meant I would have to ship books to California so the distributor could ship them back to Washington. That's when I stopped selling to the local REI. Too much carbon footprint. I do miss seeing them on the shelf tho. ;(
I swore off backcountry chairs, too. Then went on a week long hike with a buddy and took every chance I had to sit in his. Still don't own one, but man are they nice to have around.
Guaranteed that one lonely book will inspire whoever reads it. It may give them strength to reach out of their comfort zone and try things they never done before, or inspire them to start writing their own books. It will touch somebody some way, some how.
It is a great feeling. I may never have felt more validated than the day I saw a stack of copies of a guidebook I was part of (3of us) in the gear store at Plas y Brenin, the UK’s National Mountain Centre.
Disappointed that none of my books are on the shelf there... (🙂 Just joking I don't sell outside the UK much)
And I don't sell in the UK at all! Let's engineer a switch!
I love your writing!! I want to read all of your books now! Thank you for being here!
Ahh thank you!!
Your books would fit in great at our local bookstore, Trails End Bookstore in Winthrop, WA :)
Authors cold calling doesn't usually work but if you feel OK about asking them, that would be so great. No pressure!
Oh I’m totally going to! :) They love doing author readings as well at the bookstore and the local library.
Oh! I'd come up there!!
So proud to be with you when you found your book at REI!

Oh that is so sweet, thank you!!

Isn't it great? Nobody can take that away (even if REI has dropped it, it was there once!)
What a good find! On a rainy day(s) Our REI number is so low that a staff member reacted with awe at the store in a Denver suburb!
I still have that REI sleeping bag from the 1970s!
Please keep writing! You are gifted and your stories are important.
Thanks! The winter is the best time for me to write. Now I am on a hiking hiatus!
