Two things I won't do either: listen to headphones while hiking and put a paywall half way down a post. But I also won't camp out in rattlesnake country ...
A lovely reminiscence of times afoot on 'the trail'.
I've also often wondered why it is that many hikers (runners, bikers, climbers..) occlude the ambience they've elected to walk in, by donning headphones - or, these days, ear buds - it's a mystery which defies understanding.
I don't get it either. I think in the case of thru hikers they actually get a little bored, but luckily I never have that problem. There's always something to think about, look at, or dream.
Thank you! It's funny, on only one day of our 17 day JMT hike last summer, everyone we saw wished us Happy Trails. Then nobody said it! So we kept saying it.

Well I appreciate the first two! I don't enjoy camping with rattlesnakes either!
I hear that!
It was such a great hike, I didn't think I would enjoy it this much.
I remember staying with your folks in Flagstaff when your dad was teaching at NoArizUniv and your mom was volunteering with the Park Service (?).
Yes she was! I thought about them a lot.
"I didn't intend..." I find there is a fair bit of that in life. ;-p
Haha! Yes, I sure didn't intend to live in the county for this long either.

Continued Happy Trails

From Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Happy Trails to you until we meet again
I loved the peaceful rhythm of the Mogollon Rim. And the elk!
It's so different than the rest of the AZT.
